I have just recently begun my family's genealogical research, so the information I have collected so far has been from family records; however, a vast majority of it has come from the rock-solid memory of my maternal grandmother, Mary Veronica Nealon (nee Ahern). She has been able to provide me with some names and partial dates going all the way back to my great-great-great grandparents, not only in her family, but in my grandfather's, as well. I know that I am of Irish descent on both sides of my family. My paternal grandparents immigrated to the United States from Counties Roscommon and Galway, Ireland in the 1920's. My grandfather, Patrick Joseph Greene, told me he dropped the "e" from our name when he entered this country. I have heard various reasons as to why he did that. Unfortunately, neither of them were able to provide information beyond their own parents. Part of my maternal family hails from Co Cork, Ireland, but the majority of the data I have on hand has the birth place listing of Brooklyn, NY. I hope that, with the research I am conducting, I will be able to fill in some of the gaps in my family tree. And, who knows? There might be a long-lost relative out there conducting the same research...we might be able to help each other in the quest for our ancestors.
