John Franklin Mathers was born in Washington on 4/10/21 to a mother and father who were both born in Washington. I was an only child. My mother Helen Mable Mathers was born 12/3/93 and died in Washington 7/10/1851. My father John Grant Mathers was born 7/3/1885 in Washington and died around 2/34. He graduated from Mckinley Manual Training School in 1904 and from Lehigh University 1908. At the time on his death, he was Senior Engineer with the Federal Power Commission. My fraternal grandfather was James W. Mathers. He was born in 1858, I believe in Vineland, N.J., and died in Washington in 1927. He retired from the Gov't. Printing Office in 1926 I have in my possession a medal awarded him by the N.J. National Guard in 1881. It is inscribed "Serj. J.W. Mathers, Co. D". I Checked with the NJDARM and they advised they have no record of James W. or J.W. Mathers being born on Vineland or in the Guard. My fraternal grandmother was Katherine Duffy Mathers born in 1859. I have no information about her except that she died in Washington in 1919 during the flu epidemic. Maternal grandparents were Frank H. Mable and Hattie Harding Mable. Frank was born in London, Eng, in 1859 and emigrated to the U.S. with his brother Fred J. some time around 1864-70. They were in the painting and decorating business in in Utica and Binghamton, N.Y. until Frank married and moved to Washington around 1885-90. He died in Washington 1934. Hattie was born in 1858 in Binghamton and died in Washington in 1933. She had a brother, Theodore Harding who was in the realestate in Washington and a nephew Lowell Harding who was a pilot in WW I and later was employed by the old Civil Aeronautics Administration
