I am working to trace my ancestry, including the following families:
Matthews-I have been able to verify this line as far back as my grandfather, William M. Matthews, born in Madison, GA, in 1885, and died in Montgomery, AL, in 1924. I believe that I have identified my grandfather's father as a William Matthews, born about 1845 in Clarke County, GA. At present I am focusing on trying to confirm or deny this relationship. Any information on Matthews families in northern Georgia in the 19th century would be greatly appreciated.
Kilpatrick-My paternal grandfather's mother's family. With work done by Jean Dorfler, I've traced them back to a Thomas Kilpatrick who, I believe, emigrated from Scotland to Ireland to Georgia in the mid 1700's, apparently accompanied by two brothers, one who came to North Carolina and the other further north. I'm related to George Washington through Martha Stokes Scott, mother of Madison Kilpatrick of Georgia.
Kellam-My paternal grandmother's father's family, I've traced to Ouachita CO, Arkansas, and Rusk CO, Texas, in the mid 1800s.
Brodnax-My paternal grandmother's mother's family. Also in Ouachita CO, Arkansas. With help of work done by other family members, have traced back to England in 1400s. I'm related to President George Bush through William Brodnax, who came to Virginia from England.
Compton-My mother's maiden name. Mostly in Marengo CO, Alabama. With help of work done by other family memebers, have traced back to 1700s, inclduing Renz family from Stuttgart, Germany.
Weaver-My mother's mother's family. Mostly in Morgan CO, Alabama. With aid of a cousin, John Salmen, have traced back to North Carolina in early 1800s.
If any of these names and places strike a chord with you, please contact me. I would be pleased to share any information I have, and would appreciate anything you can add.
