The Matthews Family of Greene County, TN

About Our Family Research


Three brothers settled in the now 6th civil district of Greene County in east TN. They came from Virginia as part of the influx of settlers following the Revolutionary War. My ggg grandfather was William Matthews, father of Solomon Matthews, father of Robert M. Matthews, father of Elvis D. Matthews, who was my father.

At the age of 61 and with all my parents and their siblings all deceased, there are few Matthews left in Greene County.
