My name is Gregory John Maxfield of Queensland Australia, I am presently researching my Family History on both my fathers and mothers side.
On my fathers side there are the Maxfields, Bannon, Matthews, Crook & Allen - the Crook and Allen families are from Somerset UK, around the Bath (Twerton) area. The Matthews and Maxfields in Victoria Australia were from the suburbs of Melbourne and then to the Bendigo Goldfields during the Gold rushes of around 1850's. Mary Ann Bannon was born in Ireland around 1813 and migrated to Australia about 1842.
My mothers side are the Hockings, Oats, Sebo, Edwards. Grandfather John Hocking was born on the high seas during a voyage from Plymouth to Melbourne Victoria Australia which departed on the 16th October 1869 and arrived on the 8th January 1870. The ship was the sailing Barque "Caduceus" of 1006 tons.
His parents William Eddy Hocking and Tamey Thomas Oats were from St Just in Penwith, Cornwall.
I am a member of the Hocking Dependants Society and would look forward to contact with any one who may believe they have information which may be mutually beneficial.
