I have researched my Bonhomme ancestors of Tyneside irregularly for more than twenty years. While I have a great deal of information on his many descendents from a marriage to Hephzibah Dafter early in 1852, I still have many mysteries to solve. Francois Bonhomme arrived in Tyneside via Carlisle from France/Italy. The family legend is that he fought alongside Garibaldi for the liberation of Italy before fleeing to England where a price was placed on his head. I would love to know where he came from before settling in the north east. Prior to his marriage to Hephzibah, Francois had two children - Charlotte & Louis - from a first marriage with Bridget Clare who I assume was French. Charlotte was married in London to a man named Godfrey Bauins in 1873. Did she have children? Louis eventually called himself Lewis Bonham and had a number of children. I would love to find his descendents. When Francois married for the second time, he was 53 and Hephzibah was only 17, and already pregnant. They had many children, but I would particularly like to trace living relatives of Josephine who married a German called Carlson. The other North Shields/Tynemouth ancestors I am researching are: Corbitt; Dafter; Dixon; Pigg and Stewart.
