I have been searching for my grandparents' family but have run into a brick wall. Records in Montana in 1900 were destroyed by fire. Walter Jesse Mayer was born in Lewiston, Montana around 1890 and was the last child born (and the only one born in America) to a Basque Sheepherding family. His wife, Charlotte Stephan Checcuchi Stephan was born in Berlin, Germany in 1900 to Enrico Alfonse (or Alexander) Checcuchi and Anna Stephan who were itinerant artists travelling Europe at the turn of the Century.
