My Dad (Paul Pettigrew) was raised, but not adopted by, his maternal grandmother and her second husband after his mother died when he was a month old. I didn't know that he had a birth family until I was almost grown. As I grew older, and adopted 2 kids (plus I have 4 birth children) it became more important to me to find our birth heritage. I knew who I was, but it left me with a feeling of loss to not know my blood heritage, so I started to research. It is amazing to find pictures thru research of people who we resemble so much, and also to find that previous beliefs about my ancestors to be completely incorrect.
