Greetings! May God bless us all as we show reverence for our parents by searching for the generations that wandered this Earth before us!
I'm the Mrs in the current generation of this family of McClendons and am not a professional genealogist. I just happen to have had a number of individuals in various branches of our family who have also taken an interest in our lineage in the past. I feel blessed that we already know a great deal about our family, but there are always nagging questions!
Our family tree includes the surnames Harton, Hicks, Pearson, Dumas, Bush, Jeffrey, Canterbury, Pugh, Stabler, Jones, Pearse, Harvey, Rowe, Miner, Lavers, Watts, Brown, Yoe, Challacombe, Baker, Peake, Berge, Vestbo, Vold, Fjeld, Benson, Runestad, Bjornsen, Rasmussen.
All these families came from Western Europe, particularly Western England, probably the Western highlands of Scotland, and specifically the islands (Mosteroy, Bru, and Berge on Finnoy) between Stavanger and Bergen, Norway. My side of the family all immigrated directly to Illinois in the late 1800's and early 1900's and stayed there until the current generation. The McClendon family apparently entered this country around 1696 in the northern part of North Carolina and moved across at about the same latitude into Alabama. The Jeffrey family apparently came from Virginia to Alabama. Ed's parents' generation moved to Illinois from Alabama.
I am very interested in the stories behind the people and the history of the immigrations. Where did our people come from originally, where did they go, what route did they travel and why?
If you think you have connections with this family, feel free to email me. May the Lord be with you!
