I am very early into the research of my ancestry, however I have all the desire and none of the time to do much research at this time. I will relay the following about myself and my family.
I am the Sheriff of Burke County, North Carolina and I have 25 years of law enforcement experience.
My wife is also a law enforcement officer with 17 years exp.
My brother Don is a North Carolina Highway Patrolman with 20 yrs. exp.
My sister Lou is with Forest City,N.C. Police Dept. with 12 yrs. exp., her husband is also a Police Officer with 20 yrs. exp.
My late father Thomas E. McDevitt was a Police Officer for 36 years and retired as the Chief of Police in Forest City,N.C.
My father was born in Madison County,N.C. in 1931
His father Thomas Fleming McDevitt passed away in 1938 in Madison County, N.C. as the result of a logging accident.
My Greatgrandfather Flem McDevitt and my Grandfather Thomas Fleming McDevitt are both buried in a family burial plot in Madison County, N.C. which contains only their two graves.
This is as far back as I have been able to trace the McDevitt side of my family and I am very much interested to learn more.
