Henry McDonald (1799-1866)and his wife Esther McCormick (1811-1897)emmigrated from county Carlow Ireland, abt 1824 and settled near Lakefield in Gore township in the province of Quebec Canada, abt.1827, where they homesteaded "farmed" and raised a family.
Henry was the son of James? McDonald and probably Mary Ann Parker? both, of Carlow Co. Ireland and, it is believed, with previous roots in Scotland.
Henry's younger brothers William and John moved, one to Vermont, and the other to western Canada. Henry's sister, Margaret (1809) married Samuel Smith (1797-1893). Younger sibblings were Sarah and Patrick.
Henry and Esther's children were -James 1828,Mary 1830, Margaret 1836, Ann 1839, Jane 1842, Henry 1844, Robert 1847, John 1850, William 1853, Samuel 1856.
More than 100 decendants of Henry John McDonald(1871-1951)and Laura Maud Boyd (1879-1950), met for a McDonald family reunion at Kerr's Farm, near Lakefield Que, in June 1989. Henry John was an older brother of Margaret 1867, and Elizabeth 1869,and he was the only son of James McDonald (1828)and Ann Robinson.
In attendance were five surviving of 10 great grandchildren of Henry and Esther along with many gg,ggg,& gggg gchildren.
2002 -Keith McDonald, gg grandson of Henry and Esther, living in St.Catharines Ontario, is now continuing to research the McDonald family tree and will publish this work on this web site. An attempt will be made to create a McDonald family web site thru which we can share information of interest to decendants of the Lakefield McDonalds. Comments and assistance is welcome ( firstname.lastname@example.org). Any help in finding and tracing the roots in Ireland back thru to Scotland and clan macdonald roots, would be most appreciated.
