I have been working on my family tree since January, 2002 and here is a genealogy report covering my findings. My research indicates that James McDowell was the father of at least two sons, Nathan b 1797 (married to Esther Capps) and John b 1799 (married to Rebecca Capps) and later James married a third sister, Liza Capps.

I would appreciate any help with my research, especially in regard to James and his ancestors. I have seen information that James was born in Grainger County, Tennessee, but also I have seen information to indicate he was born in Ireland. His family may have migrated from either North Carolina, South Carolina or Virginia. John and Rebecca McDowell and their family migrated to Buchanan County, Missouri near St. Joseph and I have found information as to their burial sites.
