Researching the families of William R. Stovall of Dade County, MO and Henry Dudley Smith of Dade and Jasper Counties in Missouri.
William R. Stovall is the son of Caleb T. Stovall by his first wife, said by some to have been Mary McDowell, but there seems to be no documentation for her. Caleb Stovall was the son of John Stovall and Jane Patterson; the grandson of George Stovall Sr. and Elizabeth Landon/London; and the great-grandson of Bartholomew Stovall (1665 - 1722).
William R. Stovall married Luvinia/Lavena Bradley in Sumner co., TN in 1832 and moved to Missouri about 1845-46 and was living in Dade Co. in the 1850 census. His eldest daughter, Sarah/Saviah A. Stovall, married Henry Dudley Smith in 1856 and lived in Dade co in 1860, and Jasper county in 1870 and 1880. Henry Dudley Smith died in Wise Co., TX in 1885. His family lived in Franklin Co., Arkansas in 1885, and had moved to Choctaw Nation in Indian Territory by 1891 when Henry's widow, Saviah A. Smith applied for and was granted a pension based on his Civil War service.
Descendants of Henry and Saviah lived in Springfield, MO and Haskell County, Oklahoma and in California.
