Gordon McDonald is researching his ancestors who were Irish immigrants to Ketch Harbour area of Nova Scotia during the late 1790 or early 1800's. Originally thought to be from the Isle of Skye, Scotland.
The first generation noted begins with Thomas William McDonald who shows up on the Poll Tax of 1792. He was a fisherman working out of Ketch Harbour, Nova Scotia. We have no information on when he arrived here or from where he came. He married Anne Pennell in 1795, daughter of Matthew Pennell and Jane Brooks. She was born in 1777 in Sambro, Nova Scotia. Her father and grandfather before him were lighthouse keepers at Sambro Island.
Thomas and Anne Pennell had the following children: Thomas McDonald born in 1796 William McDonald born in 1797 Mary McDonald born in 1800 Matthew McDonald born in 1804 Ann McDonald born in 1808 Charolotte McDonald born (unknown) Jane McDonald born (unknown)
We have limited info on names and spouses of these siblings.
Gordon McDonald is ggg grandson of Thomas McDonald and Anne Pennell.
We are just beginning our research so hope to add more soon.
