I started compiling this information in 1999. Sources include: Relatives, Distant Relatives, Internet Sites and Others.
I started this project leading up to a family reunion for the decendants of my grand parents on my mother's side: Allen Thomas McDonell m. Mary Sophia Horne. The reunion was held in Enfield, Nova Scotia in August of 1999 at the homestead.
Following that reunion I thought it only right to have another family reunion for the decendants of my grand parents on my father's side: Andrew Duncan MacDonnell m. Edith Mary Manning. That reunion will be held in the same spot in August of 2003.
Yes, my mother was a McDonell who married a MacDonnell. This makes for a very interesting family tree.
This information dates back to Donald Ban McDonell:
b. May 26, 1753 Aberchalder (Auberchaladair), Glengarry, Inverness-shire, Scotland.
A farmer who emigrated to Canada with Mary Scott's father (Archibald Scott), her brothers and a sister.
They departed from Druimindarroch on 12 July 1790 aboard the ship "The Jane". Landed at Prince Edward Island (then called St. John Island) sometime in September of 1790. The ship's manifest listed all as residents of Auberchaladair. They then sellted in Nine Mile River, Nova Scotia. It is suspected that Donald was granted land in Douglas Township (Nine Mile River) for loyal military service to the British Crown**.
Buried in Old Catholic Cemetery (St. John the Evangilist), Nine Mile River.

We are always eager to receive further information pertaining to the McDonell's/MacDonnell's. My email address & mailing adress are here below.
The work I have done, to the best of my knowledge, is correct.
