After the death of his first wife, he married the sister of Martin Harris , one of the three witnesses of the Book of Mormon. Ezekiel and his wife were among the early members of the Church, enduring the persecutions and moves with the other saints. During one confrontation with the mobs, he tried to be nice and make friends by asking one of them to give him a piece of tobacco. The man said he would rather give him a piece of lead. Ezekiel then opened his shirt and told him to go ahead. Another man intervened or he would have died, thus saving his life. While traveling, he had to leave two sons, Truman and Ambrose , and a daughter Sophia , behind. Truman died a few days later. Some time later, Ambrose was killed while cutting down a tree, leaving Sophia to come on alone. Ezekial went on to Provo after arriving in the Valley. He bought land and made his living principally by farming. His farm was known as the Indian Farm. He was a builder and helped much in the community.
