The Bredesen Family
Updated January 30, 2011
| About Our Family Research |
|
Greetings. This site was created by cousin Jane (Slaatte) McIntyre for the Bredesen family to use as a tool to discover, share and research our Norwegian family ancestry. It is the hope that everyone will be able to exchange photos and stories told by your parents and grandparents about the background of the Bredesens and Larsens. Together we can explore and research a little bit at a time.
I have a little bit of hand written history left to me by my mother, Vera, that will be included in the future. I also have photographs that I am sorting through to share with you here on this web site, or can be linked. If you have photos or stories of our parents/ancestors that you would like to share, please email me at jmcintyre19@adelphia.net. Photos should be jpg format.

- Uncle Bobby, Kelly Field, TX air training base (715 KB)
Based on information in his letters, this was likely taken approximately 1942 or 1943. Bobby was based for several months at Sheppard Field, TX after his air forces training at Kelly Field, conducted with this twin engine Wichita AT10 "trainer". They were used to train pilots to manuever in a twin engine plane. It is uncertain exactly what his squadron position was, possibly fight mechanic.
- Andrew & Syverine Bredesen (111 KB)
Great Grandparents Andrew & Syverine (right side) Bredesen of Oslo, Norway. Little is known about their heritage.
- Martin Larsen (22 KB)
Great Grandfather Martin Larsen, father of Ruth Martine Larsen. He was a glassmaster and owner of a glass factory in Oslo, Norway.
- Laura Svensen Larsen (31 KB)
Great Grandmother Laura Larsen raised 10 children with Martin, nine of which Vera had information. Martin much later became involved with another woman, and Laura left him and sailed to America with her youngest child (Esther). What became of her after arriving in America is unknown. The other children became neglected as he raised another family.
- "Mother" Mary Barratt (12 KB)
While together, Martin & Laura Larsen were wealthy, enjoying life with a lovely summer home, maids, etc. and were active in the Methodist church and with a children's home, Emmas Barne-Hiem. Martin furnished the home for foster children. When Laura left Martin for America she could not bring all of her children and left them to call for them later. Mary Barratt (whom David was named after) asked Martin if she could take his children in to care for them, as they were street dirty and very neglected by their father. She loved them as her own and they called her Mother Barratt.
- Ruth Martine Larsen (43 KB)
Ruth was one of nine (ten?) children raised by Martin & Laura Larsen. This photo is approximately how old she was when she sailed on her own to America with her younger sister, Rachel, in her care. She was 15, and Rachel was 6.
- Young Bredesen Family (141 KB)
This photo is shared by cousin Dan Bredesen. Uncle Paul (center) at about age 8, Vera at about age 7, David (right), and Bobby as a toddler.
- Robert Bredesen (35 KB)
Bobby in his teen years. He was the youngest of three sons. Bob died while flying in battle during WWII. His death was grieved by adoring sisters, Vera and Arlene, for many months.
- Karl with son Paul (32 KB)
This is a particularly nice photo of grandfather Karl with son Paul.
