The McIlroy's of the World

Updated November 9, 2000

About Our Family Research

I am just starting to accumulate information about my family tree. My paternal grandfather came to Canada in 1920, and settled in the Hamilton area. His immediate family were the only ones to come to Canada. They were originally from a small town called Cullybackey (not sure on spelling), in the Northern part of Ireland, right near Belfast. I am interested in tracing my roots as far back as I can. Some of the different stories I have heard over the years are that the McIlroy's originated from France and were "booted" out. I have also heard stories that we may have been Scottish and that we may have some Spanish in the line. Apparently, there was a shipwreck of the Spanish Armada and some of the survivors settled in Northern Ireland. I hope to contact family I have in Ireland, as I know that I do have some there, and to trace my family tree, as I already stated.
