My father(Nikolajs UDRIS)was born in Riga, Latvia on December 5, 1925. Several years later, my uncle Janis was born who married Rosa and had 2 sons of their own. My grandfather was Vladislav Udris 1902-1973?? also born in Latvia who was married to Anna. My great-grandfather was Wiktor Udris 1877-1945 from Latvia. Aleksandrs Viktora 1909-1965 and Valerijs Aleksandra 1950-1967 whose names were also on the tombstone in the cemetary where my grandfather and great-grandfather were buried.
After WW11, Nick married Irma Moelers(aug 19,1929-jul 10,1993)and went to work in the mines in Belgium. My sister(Irena b.Jun 11,1949)and myself(Astrid b.Feb 1,1948) were born outside of Ghent, Belgium.
We emmigrated to Canada in 1951 where my father worked in the mines of Northern Ontario. He worked in several mines, one of which was Upper Canada Mines. He loved to fish, hunt, working on his home and in the garden. My two brothers(Harris b. Jun 11,1955) and (Erik b. Oct 11,1956)were born in Kirkland Lake. My father enjoyed his life up in the north country. Working in the mines caused some health problems, and he had to give up the mines.
In 1964 we moved down to Brampton in southern Ontario. He built homself a good life but realy missed the north and the fishing. My father was able to go back to Latvia several times to see his family and the last time was in 1993.
He enjoyed traveling and one of the beautiful places he raved about was Yugoslavia. He had the chance to go to three different areas of this country before the destruction.
He passed away while he was on vacation in Cuba on February 15,1994.
