For the past 15 years, I have been searching for information about the Coombs family and their roots in Ireland. They arrived from Ireland in 1850, and lived in New York City. Part of the family moved to New Jersey, living in Paterson and environs. John Coombs was my great grandfather. His father, William Coombs came from Ireland with John when he was 7. William's parents were William and Mary, but I have not found a location for them in Ireland. John's wife, MargaretBenson Moore, was related to the Joralemons and Varicks, an old Dutch family who came to the U.S. in the 1600's. I have recently received information on John Moore, Margaret's grandfather. John Moore came from County Tyrone in Ireland. I have also discovered a cousin, Hadley C. Ford, who lives in FL. My goal is to find the origins of the Coombs family in Ireland, and since I now know that the Moores came from County Tyrone, I'm thinking they should be near there. The family was Protestant.
