Larry E. Vernon was born December 30, 1896 in Dade County, Florida. I know he was in the Navy and that he was a flyer in World War One. He was shot down somewhere in France and rescued his co-pilot from the burning plane just before it blew up. As a result of the injuries he sustained, he had a plate put in his head. I do not have a service number for him. I heard he sang on the radio while in the Navy. The flu epidemic of 1918 hit his family hard and I was told that most of them died as a result of it. I am desperate to learn anything I can. I am 63 years old and I know nothing about my father or his family, (except for the things I learned up til the time he passed away in Nov. of 1955 from Cancer. I was only seventeen at the time. He worked for American Airlines on the East Coast for 29 years.
Recently I learned, by sending for my mother and father's marriage license, the names of my grandparents on my father's side. My grandmother's name was Martha Parker and my grandfather's name was Walter Vernon.
