The McKnights & Andrews of Georgia

Updated November 9, 2000

About Our Family Research

The information I have about my family has been handed down in the oral tradition. I ask many questions of older relatives. My McKnight relatives on my father's (Joseph McKnight)side came from a plantation in Wilmington, North Carolina. My Andrews relatives on my mother's (Mary Ellen Andrews) side came from a plantation in Wayne County, Georgia. The oldest Andrews relative I grew up with (Doc Andrews) was 9 years old when the slaves were freed. I have been told that my great grandfather (Rodge Andrews)was a water boy for Sherman. Both sides of my family were once large land holders in Glynn County, Georgia.
