McKinneys of Allegheny County, Pa.

About Our Family Research

I have been able to trace our line of McKinneys to County Donegal and County Derry in Ireland about 1820. It was about that year that William and Martha McKinney brought their family to this country, settling on fields near where Gen. Braddock met his defeat and death during the French and Indian War.
McKinney's sons, John and Robert, ultimately sold most of the land to Andrew Carnegie around 1871 at a huge markup.
John's son, William, married Josephine West of the notable West family who lived across the Monongahela River from the McKinneys. Josephine was daughter of Tom and Anne (Nancy) West. Tom's lineage traces back to 1600s and includes men who fought in the Revolutionary War. Tom West's ancestry includes early American artist Benjamin West.
