The Huey McLain Family and Traditions Updated June 28, 2011
About Our Family Research
My grandfather, John Calvin McLain (sometimes spelled "McClain in Barbour County records) married my Grandmother, Nancy McRae in July 1866 according to records on file in the courthouse at Clayton, Alabama. John Calvin fought in the war between the states, having joined the Confederate Army in Savannah, Georgia at the outbreak of war. I have been unable to find his place of birth or the names of his mother and father. My own father told us very little about his his famikly. I believe John Calvin lived in Georgia prior to the war between the states. My Grandmother, Nancy McRae was born in North Carolina and her family moved to Alabama, five days after her birth. I believe John Calvin was born in Ireland but I have been unable to prove it. The McLains are scattered all over the eastern part of the U. S.
