The family of Anna Rae Cummer

Updated August 8, 2003

About Our Family Research

The first Cummer to arrive in the United States was Hans KUMMER accompanied by his son Daniel. The were invited to the US by William Penn and they settled in Pennsylavnia until the talk of a revolutionary war came about. Both Hans and Daniel has died and Daniel's son Jacob decided to move his family to Canada for the free land that was offered to all those loyal to the "King of England".
So, off they went and settled in Ontario. Jacob changed his surname to CUMMER from KUMMER because it was easier to print a "C" on the sacks of grain at his farm. The Cummer's multiplied and migrated all over the country. Many of them came to the US through Michigan (Sanilac and St. Clair Counties).
