McMurray Family History, Iowa, Ill., Kentucky, Tenn. Updated July 25, 2001
About Our Family Research
My name is Patty McMurray and I am just beginning with researching my family history. My Grandfather Edward Everett McMurray was very enthusiastic about our family history, but since his passing in 1980, the whereabouts of his records are not known. I am currently tracing the McMurray history in southern Illinois, in the Du Quoin area. Mary Susie Irwin born in Benton, Kentucky in 1863, was married to Thomas Malcolm McMurray in 1881, and the two of them had 10 children, of which many sons and daughters are still living in the southern Illinois area. I am attempting to discover the place in our family tree where John H. Duncan belongs. He was born in Benton, Kentucky in 1858 and married Mary Spiller in 1883. He was apparently an Uncle to Everett McMurray and Grandpa Everett spoke often of John Duncan and his father Captain Samual Duncan who fought for the Union in the Civil War.
