Captain Robert McQuillan was born in 1842 at Glenravell, County Antrim, Ireland. Died 4 March 1913 in Dunedin, New Zealand. He is buried at the Dunedin Southern Cemetery. He arrived in New Zealand in approximately 1862.
He was a seaman, became a 1st Mate, then in 1877 became a Master Ordinance in Foreign Trade
In 1887 he was a storeman [shopkeeper] living at 64 Hanover Street, Dunedin.
In 1878 he married Hannah McGrath, born about 1856 in Geelong, Australia, and died on the 24 February 1946 and is buried in the Dunedin Southern Cemetery also. She was a storekeeper in Castle Street, Dunedin.
Hannah was the daughter of William and Bridget McGrath.
