The basic information I used to begin my genealogical research came from old family bibles and interviews with my grandmothers on both sides of the family. Using that information, I've found a lot of missing links on the Internet, much of which was already documented. Nevertheless, the perfectionist in me would like to preface this page with the warning that one cannot have complete confidence in research unless one has seen the primary source of the information. That said, I hope this site will be helpful and/or entertaining for someone out there!
The names I am researching include Tench, Bennett, Campbell, Dillon, Cooper, McGhee, Glass, Bird, Ferguson, Abshire, and Edwards in VA (Franklin County), Meeks, Beaver, Bradlong, and McCluer in TX, IL, and IN, Meeks and Bartlett in WV (VA), and Killen, Lynch, Bonner, Burkett, and Reed in TX.
My mother's family has been in Franklin County, Virginia, for quite a long time. I have some information that indicates that our Tenches were mariners from England who brought settlers to America in the 17th century, but as I have no real proof, I haven't presented it here. My father's family spread farther across the United States: one branch went south through North Carolina and Tennessee to Texas; another took a northern route through Ohio, Indiana and Illinois.
I plan on beginning the long task of verifying my data as soon as I can. In the meantime, if you have questions about anything, please e-mail me for more information. In many cases, I have more information about a certain branch than I have put here; in other cases, I may have documentation I can provide you with to prove certain connections.
