I have always intended to build a family tree on the Barron side of my family. My mother was born Philomène Barron in Amqui, Quebec, Canada. Her parents were Diana Tremblay and Timothy Barron. Diana was born in Amqui and Timothy was born in Bathurst New Brunswick. My grandfather's parents were Walter Barron and Mary Clifford. I have collected much information on the children of Diana and Timothy Barron, including their children's children. My one regret is not having started this project while I still had my mother, and aunts and uncles around to provide more accurate information. I am very fortunate to have cousins of my generation who have provided me with memories they have of my grandfather and grandmother's sisters and brothers. In particular, I would like to especially thank my cousin Mona McDonagh, Ivan Gelinas & Rolland Barron and last but not least my brothers Victor, Ivan and Paul Daigneault. Without their help, I would not have had much to go on.
My challenge now is to find more accurate information on my great grandparents. I have information that indicates families named O'Neill and White of Bathurst are related by marriage. There is unsubstantiated information that my grandfather had 4 siblings. Only 1 is known conclusively to date. Of the 5 children in grandfather's family, 4 were born in New Brunswick and Henry was born in Quebec.
By creating this internet site and sharing the known information I have to date, I am hopeful I will find more concrete information that will lead me to my great grandfather's upper line. It is believed he came to Canada from Ireland. Nothing to comfirm that so far. There is a Walter Barron born in Scotland with compatible birth date, however, this Walter Barron was married to a Martha and my grandfather's birth certificate clearly indicates the wife as Mary Clifford. Grandfather always told us he was Irish descent. I must find death information re my great-grandfather WALTER BARRON in order to proceed from there to follow the whereabouts of the family members.
I have information that some of the family changed their family name to Barnes. I have marriage and birth certificates that show both names as in 'Barron (Barnes).
This indication will be the real challenge of this search.
Barron Family (61 KB) This file contains the information I have gathered to date. It is a work in progress. It starts with my grandfather Timothy (Thimotée) Barron (Barnes) and his wife Diana Tremblay (Desbiens). The essential information for most of the tree is verified in writing, the rest provided by relatives who have information on their parents, aunts, uncles, cousins & nieces.
I have my grandfather's birth certificate that identifies his parents' names. Walter Barron and Mary Clifford. They are of Irish descent and Roman Catholic. I have been unsuccesful in finding any information on Walter Barron. It appears from some information that a Mary Barron is shown as widowed for the 1881 N.B. Census. It identifies 5 children in the family. John, b.1857, Mary b.1865, Timothy b. 1869, Joseph b. 1871, Henry b. 1873. Identified as Irish and Roman Catholic. It shows the mother Mary as widowed and born in Ireland. Consistent with the information provided to some of my older cousins by my grandfather. He also told them he was raised by the White family in Bathurst. His sister Margaret White married a John O'Neill who later became a police chief of Bathurst. This couple were godparents to my aunt Helene who was a daughter of my grandfather, sister to my mother Philomène. My challenge now is to continue to try to find information on my g. grandfather Walter Barron (Barnes). I hope this leads to his ancestors in Ireland.
