He married Mildred Elma Larcom on August 02, 1920 in Williamsport, Lycoming, Pennsylvania, daughter of Fred C. Larcom and Nellie Mae Smith.

Fred was born in Osceola Mills, Pennsylvania. There were a lot of coal mines in the area, Fred leaned how to count by counting the coal cars as they entered and left the mine.

Fred had an accident in an acid plant when he was young and lost an eye due to the accident. He had a glass eye .

Fred died of cancer of the liver

BOWEN - Fred Bowen, of 29 Crosby Ave., passed away at the Niagara Sanatorium Sept. 7, 1957. He is survived by his wife, Mildred E., 2 daughters, Mrs. Harry Olson of Lockport, Mrs. Anthony Dimascio of Rochester, 5 grandchildren, 1 sister and 5 brothers, Mrs. Belle Hayes and Richard Bowen of Williamsport, Pa., George Bowen of South Fork, Pa., Thomas Bowen of Windber, Pa., Willard Bowen of Pitcairn, Pa. and James Bowen of Altoona, Pa. Also several nieces and nephews. Friends may call at Prudden and Kandt Funeral Home 242 Genesee Street where funeral services will be held Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock. Interment in Glenwood Cemetery.
