Jacob Metzger (son of Johann Jacob Metzger and Barbara Dast) was born January 10, 1746/47 in Steinenbronn, Wuerttemberg, Germany, and died August 08, 1835 in Chillicothe, Ross, Ohio. He married Mary Dreisbach on 1768 in Pennsylvania.

DAR Patriot Index mentions birthdate as 22-Jan-1746/47 this couuld be date of baptism. Mildred Baker, Jacob was living in Buffalo Valley, Pa south of Mifflintown during the Revolution. He served as a spy against the Indians who were being paid by the British for each scalp, child, man, or woman turned into the British. Pension record and service records on file at the National Archives. When the land beyond the mountains was open to settlement after the war, Jacob and most of his children went to Chillicothe, Ohio. Revolutionary marker on his grave north of Chillicothe. Some children stayed in Chillicothe and some went to Circleville, Ohio. Mildred mentions book "Annals of Buffalo Valley".

Rev. War May 06, 1778, 2 months later under Lt. McElvy Jan 01, 1779 to October of 1781 as an Indian Spy in Captain John Fosters Company, Col. John Kelly's Regiment. He was drafted into the service of the United States under Lt. Samuel McGrady and Captain John Foster and Col. John Kelly from Northumberland County, Pennsylvania November 01, 1777, but due to local circumstances was compelled to hire Michael Lamb as a substitute for three months. On the 6th day of May 1778, he was again called by draft under Lt. McCloy for two months and marched to Potter's forest in the Pennsylvania Valley, returning to Northumberland in July of the same year. He again joined the army and served as a volunteer under the command of Lt. Samuel McGrady, Captain John Lester and Col. John Kelly's regiment on or about the first of January 1779 as a spy against the Indians in Northumberland County. He continued at the service until October 16, 1781 and during that time marched to the relief of Fort Bausly in Pennsylvania when attached by Indians.
