I am Nancy Sue Qualkinbush Meyer b. 1944 daughter of Oliver and Odella Qualkinbush, wife of David Meyer m. 1963. David and I have three children and four grandchildren scattered around Indiana. I have been interested in my family genealogy since I was 14 years old, and now I am now trying to pull it all together. With piles of data, notebooks, pictures and my computer (and some helpful cousins), I am trying hard to update my family -- I guess to prove to myself that the Qualkinbush, Glass, Covington, Waggoner families are still with me. I have recently set out to explore my husbandís ancestors, but there sure are a lot of Meyer, Johnson, and Smith. I just recently found the names of two sets of my husband's great grandparents : Daniel Johnson and Rachel Servis Johnson (from Ohio) and Miah Smith and Mahala Jane Thornburg Smith. Hopefully, I'll find more.
My Fatherís side:
Qualkinbush - Qualkenbush - Quakenbush - Quackenbush - Waggoner - Wagoner - Wagner - Stanfield - Foote - Hawkins - Killion
My Father: Oliver O. Qualkinbush b. 1897 in Orange County, IN d. 1976 in Muncie, IN, Delaware County.
My grandparents were Albert Willard Qualkinbush and Melissa Mae Waggoner (Wagoner).
My great-grandparents were Albert Quackenbush and Eliza Stanfield Quackenbush and William Waggoner (Wagoner) and Mary Jane Hawkins Waggoner who lived in southern Indiana counties of Martin, Lawrence, Orange, Dubois and ? Earlier Southern Indiana ancestors include John Quackenbush and Sally Foote Quackenbush and Peter Quackenbush and Mary Searle Quackenbush. Our Qualkinbush family came from New York and originated in Holland.
My Motherís side:
Glass - Covington - Murrell - Carroll - Donelson - Robinson
My Mother: Odella Glass Qualkinbush b. 1909 in Scott County, KY. d. 1973 in Muncie, Indiana, Delaware County.
My grandparents were Claude Glass and Nannie Donelson Covington Glass who were both born in 1880 in Kentucky but migrated to Indiana. They died in 1955 and 1969.
My great-grandparents were Henry Lewis Glass (or Lewis Henry?) and Susan M. Robinson who were from Owen County, KY. Henry Lewis was the son of Henry Brock Glass and Eliza Sharp Glass. My other great-grandparents were John Thomas Covington (son of Orson Austin Covington and Elizabeth Carroll Covington) -- and Emmaline Elizabeth Murrell Covington (daughter of Stokley Donelson Murrell and Mary Blevins Murrell).
Stokley Donelson Murrell is one I have always been particularly interested in because my Grandmother used to tell me tales about him being an Andersonville prisoner who made his way home finally to die. He supposedly was aided by a Confederate soldier who later came to Kentucky. Stokley is also listed as one of the men who died on the Sultana, but that is not true. My cousin furnished me with a copy of his widowís pension documents which proves otherwise. In my research, it has been interesting to see where the great grandfathers served during the Civil War.
Other family names I am interested in: True - Lynch - Hickman - Cox - Braden - Parker
If you have any info on any of the above names, feel free to contact me. I would be glad to share my meager research. nm
