About Our Family Research
Edward McKenna, Sr. immigrated from Ireland in the very early part of the 18th. century, probably around 1835 and settled in Philadelphia, Pa. and was a shoe maker. It was there that he married his wife Catharine Dougherty who also had come from Ireland. Later they moved to Dougherty, Iowa and also for a time in Mason City, Iowa. It was in Iowa that their six children were born; five lived and one died quite young. Altogether they had seven children, they adopted a boy named Robert when he was quite small. Later they family moved to Park Rapids, Minnesota and lived there the rest of their lives. Edward, Sr. died at age 82 and Catharine died at 103.
