This is Bazzell history as told by Otis Bazzell born July 2, 1877 as his father Thomas Porter Bazzell born July 25, 1851 had told him. The Bazzell namle if from Scotllnd. The first records show they migrated from VA to Persons Co. N. Carolina to Williamson Co.Tenn. on to Ky in 1830.
10 families came through the Cumberland Gap byy way of ox wagons horse back an on foot. There was plenty yof wild game for everyone including the dogs.
Four brothers settled on Clarks river near Coldwater two on East two on west. David born Oct. 16, 1806 was father of Thomas Porter Bazzell J.C. or Jimmie Nov. 10, 1805 married Wash Hughes sister Narcissa Feb. 10, 1836. Wash was Mrs. Hobert Morgans grandfather. J.C. is Mavin Wrathers great grandfather. David and Jimmie settled on the East side. Old Asbury cemetery lies peacefully in deep shade on a hilltop in North Western corner of Calloway Co. It is in the heart of fertile hilly country settled by yBazzell's in about 1830 on East side of river.
Kindal born in 1800 Grandfather of Gulie settled on the West side. Mathias Oct. 22, 1807. Mathias Oct. 22, 1807 -Juine 4, 1877. Great grandfather of Finis and Simon settled on the West. Siimon Cousin...W.K. Bazzell 4-7-1911 Mary Jane 10-12-1841, 2-29-1888. (these must be birth, and marriage & death dates) Grandfather David T. Bazzell born 10/16/1809, 2/1/1876 Rhoda his wife 1-2-1832, 6/3/1897. Father Porter Bazzell 7-25-1851, 12/1/1914, Mary 2/1/1853, 6/6/1879. This was written by Otis Bazzell August 1940.
