Moening, Moning, Monning or Monnich???

About Our Family Research


My ancestor came from Hitzhausen, Germany (near Ostercappeln) in the early 1830's and settled in Ohio. The early records show the name as Monnich but later on it is moved towards Moening. I am confused on how and why the name changed. Is it in the translation between German and English?
