I am attempting to research my family's history for both my mother's side and my father's side. This is a daunting task as the geographical boundaries are extremely vast. My mother's family is centered in the south, including those that are still living. The ancestry is pretty southern, but my maternal great-grandfather emigrated from Ireland, to South Carolina (whether directly or not I do not know) as a young man. His last name was "Ard" which I believe to be some type of derivative as the name is not commonly found anywhere I have looked. He is the only historically "recent" emigree that I know of. This is my maternal grandmother's legacy. My maternal grandfather's family is from Virginia, specifically the Roanoke area, and as far as I know that is where the family has always been located. I have been told that my grandfather's heritage is Scottish, and his last name was Overstreet. My paternal family is all centered in Pennsylvania, and always has been as far as I know. Our name is George, and I have been told my paternal grandfather's history is Welsh, potentially by way of an emigration from England. As to when the family moved to the U.S. I do not know. My paternal grandmother's history is German. Her last name was Engle. Again, I do not know when her family first came to this country, but I believe, for both grandparents, the immigration was not recent. This is my quest. I want to know who my ancestors are and where they came from. I want to find their story and share it with my family and some day my children. I have married and my name is now Moerschel, and after I finish this quest, I shall begin the quest for my new family!
