The J.C. Momberg Family of Iowa City, Iowa

Updated March 6, 2003

About Our Family Research

I am building a family tree for my twin sons to have someday searching the names: Momberg, Bigelow, Sandidge, Dvorsky, Dodge, Novy, Moore, Weekes, Rhode, Dunn, Yater, Galbraith, Powell, Zachar, and others as I find them. The families lived mostly in eastern Iowa, central Illinois and/or northern Missouri. Our Momberg ancestor is believed to have come from the Netherlands around 1850 with his fiance/new bride. His name was Henry (Hendrik) Momberg and her name was Johanna H. Unknown born January 21, 1830, and she was from Zutphen, Holland. Family lore has him being a stable boy at her father's estate and their marriage being an elopement. Pivotal individuals in the tree include Thomas Jefferson Dodge, William Wesley Moore, Israel Bigelow, Mathias F. Dvorsky, Edward T. Dunn, and William Yater arriving in the Midwest from Tennessee, Kentucky and Pennsylvania.
