My maiden name is Barbara Jean Foster, I am researching mixed heritage ancestral lines. Starting on my father's side during slavery. My earliest research goes back to John (Chap) WELLS (b.1825 in or near Tuscaloosa,AL) he married Malinda? they had 5 children, Amanda, Rachel, Margaret, Melinda & Hiter WELLS (b. May 1854, Romulus,AL) he had a son with Amanda FOSTER (b. Jan 1860)named Noble FOSTER (b.22 June 1878,AL - d. 7 Mar 1947, Omaha,NE). Noble married my grandmother, Mary Ellen WILLIAMS (b. 22 May 1879,Tuscaloosa,AL - d.18 Jan 1975, Omaha, NE) on 7 Apr 1901 in Ralph, AL. Their son, my dad, Alexander Wells FOSTER (b. 17 Nov 1915 - d.3 Apr 1981, Omaha). They also had 3 daughters, Jeanette Lucinda FOSTER CRAWFORD THOMPSON(b.9 Jul 1903 d.27 Aug 1986), Maggie Cornelia FOSTER CARPENTER(B.30 Mar 1909 d.27 Aug 1986),and Edna Mae FOSTER COMBS WILSON (b.14 May 1918 - d. 25 Dec 1973). My Greatgrandfather, I don't know what the initials stand for, W.C.WILLIAMS b. 1840(father of Mary Ellen Williams) married Jennie Ettes CURRY (b.1861, Ralph,AL) they had many children, one daughter was Lila WILLIAMS, she married Louis SAUNDERS, two of their 12 children are Ludie SAUNDERS and Mattie SAUNDERS-MOTLEY (a twin, she died in the Chicago area). The lines also have descendants in the BRAKEFIELD, CARPENTER, CRAWFORD,CURRY, DODD, FOSTER, LAWSON, MORRIS, SANDERS, ST.CLAIR,WELLS, WILLIAMS & WINFIELD, families.
I am trying to find my half-sister's three daughters, her name was Vonceil Gloria BRAKEFIELD-PENNY. All of them were born in Omaha,NE. She had a 4th daughter that died as an infant in the early 1960's.
Somehow the WELLS, on my fathers side are related (but I don't know how)to David WELLS (b.Aug 1841) also from Alabama. He married Octavia (b. May 1840) from Virginia. They had at least 4 sons, Chatman (b.Nov 1887), David II (b. Jan 1872 in Romulus, AL), Silas (b. Mar 1881, Romulus, AL) & WIlliam H WELLS (b. 18 Aug 1867 AL - d.1923-24 AL). These lines also have descendants in the ANDERSON, BERRY, BRISTOL, BURKHALTER, CURRY, OSBY, LEWIS, RICHARDSON & WATKINS families.
Our families seem to live in the counties of Fayette, Hale, Greene, Marion, Pickens, and Tuscaloosa of Alabama.
On my mother's side I am researching two basic names. USHER and ZAGURSKI. Joseph Stanley ZAGURSKI (b. 1882) in Poland, he immigrated through Ellis Island in 1900 (I need more info) & married Helen Tillie ZAGURSKI? (b.1887 in Michigan). They had children, John Edward (b. 3 Jun 1907,Omaha, NE - d.5 Mar 1986 Omaha), Theodore (b.27 Dec 1909, Omaha - d.Aug 1966, and Frances (b.Mar 1916 in NE). The family moved to Omaha, NE. These lines also have descendants in the FOSTER, GUNDRUM, JOHANSEN, MINK III, ZAGURSKI families.
The USHERS go back to my g.g.grandfather, Elias P. USHER (b.20 Dec 1804). His son was Elijah S USHER(b.Apr 1830, OH). Elijah married Lucinda EASTMAN (b.16 Jan 1840,OH)in South Wayne, Wisconsin. Lucinda's parents are Amos EASTMAN and Ruby BROCKWAY. Elijah and Lucinda had 7 children, Fred (b.May 1860 in OH), Eugene D (b. 19 Apr 1862 in WI), Lillian Ruby USHER JONES (b.10 Jun 1867), Alice Margaret USHER RIGHTMIRE (b.11 Jan 1877)), Carena M USHER CODER (b.30 Mar 1870), Clarence (b.22 Mar 1879) and my grnadfather, William Eastman USHER (b.15 Jun 1881,Fitchburg, WI-d.22 OCT 1958, buried Elwood, NE). William married Pearl Edna WEIDMAN (b. 1884 in Illinois - d. in Oregon) William and Pearl had 5 children; Herbert, Howard, my mother Audrey, Vera, & Lowell. These lines also have descendants in the BAKER, FOSTER, GUNDRUM, JOHANSEN, MINK III, NELSON, NUSBAUM, ZAGURSKI families.
