About Our Family Research


This is a page about the Downey clan that is descended from James Downey and Rachel Baker who first showed up in Litchfield CT about 1760. They had most of their children there, then moved the family to Vermont to take part in their friend Ethan Allen's land grant endeavor. They had several more children while living in Vermont. After Rachel died, James remarried to Eunice Colvin. I would like everyone who descends from James and Rachel to feel free to contact me. It would be nice to start a Downey Association and have reunions from time to time, either in Litchfield CT or in Vermont.

Everyone who is descended from James' and Rachel's son Thomas Downey and his wife Anna Bosworth can join the Mayflower Society, as Anna was a Mayflower descendant from both her father's side and her mother's side. She descended from both John Alden and John Howland.
