My LaBossiere Ancestral Line

Updated May 23, 2001

About Our Family Research

The following text was taken from a type written manuscript prepared by Father LaBossiere, a Priest and LaBossiere descendant living in Manitoba. I have written, in parenthesis, some questions that I have about some conflicting information. I hope someone can help me solve them.

Our first known ancestor was Jean Baptiste LaBossiere who was born in Nantes, France. Jean Baptiste I was a Britton and the name is of Norman Origin. The spelling of the name has taken many forms over the centuries. Jean Baptiste I married Antoinnette Foidry and had three sons; Jean Baptiste II, Michael, and Francois. Jean Baptiste II, b 1695, came to Canada in 1718 as an infantry officer. Jean Baptiste II married Catherine Martin at St. Ours, P.Q. on Nov/28/1720. Catherine was the daughter of Antoine Martin and Marie Fevrier. Jean Baptiste II was given a farm which he cultivated. In the winter he worked for a fur trading company. He died about 1770. The LaBossiere families in North America are descendants of this couple - Jean Baptiste II and Catherine Martin.

The son of Jean Baptiste II, Jean Baptiste III, b Dec/08/1721, married Ursule Rondeau at Contrecoeur P.Q on Jan/7/1743. Ursule was the daughter of Joseph Rondeau and Marie Bonnefons. Another son Pierre Louis Claude, b 9/16/1725, married Angelique Gregoire Valentin on 2/1/1745.

Jean Baptiste III and Ursule Rondeau had a son named (what else?!) Jean Baptiste. (Here, I have this Jean Baptiste III married three times from other records I have seen. First one is to Marie Ursule Rondeau in 1743 which would make him 22 years old. The second one is to Marie Amable Leroux- Cardinal on Aug. 16, 1766. And the third marriage is to Marie Josephe Comeau on Jan. 23, 1769 which would make him 65 years old. [And I was told by a volunteer at the Museum that I am decended from M. Josephe Comeau.] To make things even more confusing - One document said that Ursule married again after her husband died??? Other records say he is a widower. It would be helpful if I could find a list of the children of any or all of these marriages; but if their children have the same names, I still won't know which one I am from.????? Can anyone help me out?) Jean Baptiste IV married Marguerite Normand on (I have contradicting information here from different sources) Jan/23/1769 [which is the same day that the other record puts J. B. III and M. Josephe's marriage] or 1/11/1808 at St. Ours. Jean Batiste IV and Margeurite had a son named Joseph Labossiere. On 11/3/1851, Joseph married Catherine Gendron. Joseph and Catherine had a son named Jean Baptiste LaBossiere (the V). The other thing that might help is if I could get the dates of these people's births and deaths. Can anyone hhelp me with this mess?????

Jean Baptiste LaBossiere V, b 5/12/1857 at St. Ours, married Marie RoseAnna Lamoureux, Nov/6/1883. They had a son named Arthur (they probably also had a son named Jean Batiste, but we are no longer interested in Jean Baptistes'). Arthur was born 7/5/1886 at St. Ours and married Eva Fredette, b 4/7/1887. Arthur and Eva had a daughter named Bernardine, b 8/17/1914, who married Alfred Joseph Morin, b 7/20/1912. This is where I come in. Alfred and Bernardine are my parents.

Merci.
