Morales & Gonzalez Families from Frontón Sabana, Ciales, P.R

Updated April 21, 2006

About Our Family Research

This page is in memory of my mom (Maria T. Gonzalez) and my dad (Sergio Morales) who were very dedicated to their family and surpassed the tribulations of the past to guide us up the future, so that we could take the baton and go forth and pass it to future generations to come.

My mom loved to visit family, no matter where they were and so in her memory I have taken up the task to find out how much family i could find. This project has giving me the inspiration to bring forth to the current and future generations that information that I have gathered. I hope it is of enjoyment to all and that you may learn more as I gather more information.

One day I was looking through the pictures my mom left and the need to know about my ancestors sent me on this journey to find out about the members of our family. So I began to question members of my family about those they knew. Amazingly after gathering those names and trying to verify it, I was inspired to make it available to all, so I decided to create these web pages. This is the results of that research. Hope you enjoy it because it is our ancestry, our history of the past, present and future.

  • My Grandfather Antonio Morales Manzano (3 KB)
known as 'Toño' was my Grandfather born on 1865 in Asturias, Spain. His first wife was Maria Mercedez Morales (not verified) and they had 5 children. He then married my Grandmother Placida Morales Manzano who was born 1888 and was known as "Abuela Chere" or "Praxedes". My Grandmothers parents were identified as Miguel Angel Morales Manzano who was born 1833 and his wife Eulojia Manzano Torres who born 1874. I was told that Abuelo Toño’s wives were sisters and were descendants of the Taino Indians.
  • My Grandmother Placida Morales Manzano (1 KB)
"Abuela Chere" lived with us for a while in Ciales, P.R., but after we left for N.Y., she moved to Frontón Sabana with Tio Toño. She lived there until Tio Toño moved to Bayamon because of health reasons. She got a chance to visit Brooklyn, N.Y. to live with Sergio (my father) for a few months, but returned to Puerto Rico with her youngest son, Bienvenido. She then went to live with her daugher Tia Juana at the Cerro Vendig of Manati. There she was close to most of her sons and quite a few grandsons. She was well taken care and most of the family went to visit her there. I loved visiting her because she always had a joke or two to say.

In his Land he cultivated tabaco, sugar cane, coffee and other fruits. He owned chickens, roosters and was a coal merchant. According to what I was told one of his favorite phrases was, 'Your word is your Credit', and where ever you go that would be suficient to get anything. He was the second of four brothers, it was said that he was of strong character, but loved his family.
