This home page is meant to help me find any information I can about my family and share it with relatives and friends. The story about the Garcias that came from the Acores Islands to Brazil around 1700 hds and helpt colonize that vast country creating cities and searching for appropriate places to grow cattle and coffe. It is the story of a family that still knows some of the facts made legends, many told by my grandmother, like the fate of Januario Garcia Leal, (whose younger brother was killed by the neighbouring family after a land matter)who killed his brother's assassins and collected one ear of each one of them, making a total of seven ears he wore in a belt. It is also the search for the family of my grandfather, rev. Jorge Cesar Mota, a great iluminist and intelectual who helped translate the Bible to portuguese. His father, Joao Marques da Motta Sobrinho, was the first protestant missionary from Brazil in Portugal. He was born of a catholic father, in Portugal, and sent to Brazil at young age to study to become a priest, but after long talks with the local bishop's shoemaker decided to be a protestant. The letter he wrote to his father is still very touching and devoted, showing high degree of thinking for a 14 y-old boy. With this site I hope to get some answers, give some to whom might need and pay a tribute to my great family.
Alexandre.
