I have been researching my family tree for several years, all from my home because job and money restrict my travelling. I have been able through the internet to connect to distant relations who have been able to fill in gaps on my mother's side of the family. This part of the family I have been able to trace back to Great Britain and the first American settlements. My father's family I have not been able to trace beyond my great-grandfather, my father is not inclined to discuss his family and no one seems to be interested in researching them. My grandmother once told me that she was not interested in the past only in the future, that she was an American period. She did give me a few surnames Beck, Brown, Hardisty and Faunce. That her mother's (Hardisty is the spelling she gave me, but according to the census it is Hardesty) family came from Holland and that her father's family came from England, Sweden, Ireland and that American Indian could be found. My husband is only second generation and I have not been able to trace his family beyond his grandparents and only his maternal grandfather am I sure when he entered the USA. So I am at a stand still at the moment.
