We've been researching the Schachels for about twenty years now with very little luck. My grandfather William Henry,born in NY, was the only living child of John and Wilhelmenia Dallman Schachel...both of whom came from Germany. We were always the only Schachels in NYS. Then about 1984, each of my family with the Schachel surname recieved a letter from a Harold Schachel in Port Washington, Wis. Well...we were like a "dear in headlights".That's when we began our search for more information. In the process we've discovered several other Schachels....still don't know if we are related, but it's great having "almost cousins".
