Elaine Joyce Mudgett of Pillager, Minnesota

About Our Family Research

I was born here at Pillager, Minnesota in 1932. My father was John Thomas Mudgett, born 1905 in Otter Tail Co., Mn. and died November 2, 1976. My mother was Edith Fugate, born in May Twp. Cass Co., Mn. in 1913, and died October 29, 1982. I am a 10th generation Mudgett. My Dad's mother was Ruth Allison, daughter of John H. Allison. He was son of John Washington Allison and Ammeretta Ripley. Ammeretta was the daughter of David Ripley of Iowa, who was married to Easter Griswold. Others have researched the Ripley, and Allison Families, and the Griswold Family.
My Mother's family was the Fugate family. She descended from Lanson Fugate, Joseph Fugate, and Edward Fugate. Edward and his wife, Mahala Ashcraft are buried in Gordon Cemetery, in Vermilion Co., Illinois. Joseph and his wife, Eliza Chesney, are buried in Bridgeman Cemetery in May Twp., Cass Co., Minnesota. Lanson and his wife, Irene Blanch Fish, are also buried in the same cemetery. Irene Blanche Fish was the daughter of Willard Fish, and his wife, Alfreda Belle Loucks, both of whom are buried in Coleraine, Mn. Lanson Fugate and Irene Blanche Fish had eleven children, nine daughters, and two sons.Almost all of them are deceased now, but most of them had several children, so I have lots of cousins I do not know. Minnesota and Washington are the states most of them live in. My only brother lives in Ohio, and my baby sister is deceased. I have lost by death both of my husbands, and two children. I have five living children, ranging in age from 41 up to 58. I have nine living grandchildren, and ten living great-grandchildren.My married names were Schwatka (Herbert was killed in Korea in the war in 1953, ) and Ross (John died in September 2000). Both husbands and both deceased children are buried in Wildwood Cemetery in Pillager, Mn. My parents and my Dads mother and his brothers are also buried there.
