Johann Christoph Layrle(Lyerly) He was born in 1710 near Lake Konstance(Constance), Germany which is in the southern part of the duchy of Wurttemberg. His parents name are not known for certain. However, there is a reference to a Solomon Layrle(Lyerly) who was born in 1681 in the same Lake Konstance area. This may have been his father. TO AMERICA
Our pioneer, landed at the main port of entry, Philidelphia, a passenger on the ship "Richard & Mary", 30 Sept. 1754. He was in Culpepper County, Va. for a while. Was in Rowan County by 1771. He was a member of Organ Church. Johann and Christopher Rintleman ( Rendleman) were sent England to solicit aid for church work in the colony. Rev. Theodore S. Drage, Rector of St. Lukes Episcopal Church of Salisbury forwarded a letter to Governor William Tryon of North Carolina asking that they be sent. On July 19, 1772 they made their way to Charleston, SC bound for Europe. King George and Queen Charlotte added a gift to their purse. In the fall of 1773 Layrle and Rendelman returned to North Carolina with Rev. Adolph Nussmann (1732-94) and Johann Gottfried Arends (Arndt) (1740-1807) as teacher, later ordained as a Lutheran minister. Rev. Nussmann became the founder of the Lutheran Church in North Carolina.
