This page traces the origins of a Dutch Naessens family group descended from a Belgian Jacobus Josephus Naessens who married a Dutch girl in Rotterdam in 1764. Naessens is not a common name in The Netherlands today and basically there are just two Naessens groups, the other very much concentrated in Zeeuws Vlaanderen. Of all people in the world carrying the name Naessens, almost half (just under 49%) live in France, 35% in Belgium, 11% in the United States, just over 2% in Canada and 0.87% in The Netherlands. In other words, "my" Naessens family is a rare breed indeed! I have found not a single instance of a member of my framily past or present having been interested in emigration to the United States so it seems clear that all of the Naessenses in the US/Canada are descended from Belgian Naessens branches, or the other Dutch one in Zeeuws Vlaanderen. My own family has had long-standing ties with the Far East and, eventually, Australia and New Zealand.
