The Israel Naors of Herzliah, Israel

Updated April 25, 2003

About Our Family Research

Preface: My sister-in law Ellen M. Naor of Seattle, WA is responsible for getting me hooked on collecting and collating data on our family. She has also been generously providing me updated versions of the FTM software and has been herself researching and collating data on distant relatives. My own search has been limited to finding roots of paternal and maternal families both of which, rather unexpected to us, apparently came from the same region near Drohobicz in Galicia, Eastern Poland (today the Ukraine). From there the paternal family migrated at the end of the 19th century to Ujpest, Hungary while the maternal ancestors migrated at around 1915 to Vienna, Austria. My parents (Salomea Klarsfeld and David Neubauer) met in Vienna in 1926, married in 1927 and stayed in Austria till driven out by the Nazis in 1938. In fact from both parts of the family only my parents, my brother Jacob, I (Israel) and one of my father's brothers (Oszkar) survived the Holocaust. All others perished in Nazi concentration camps. The Neubauer family, with a slight change in name to Naor, has been rebuilt after WWII in Israel. Two more children were born: Rina on June 4, 1944 and Zvi on Oct. 8,1946. Rina is married to Shlomo Gilan, and they have three daughters (Michal,Yael and Adi)and 3 grandchildren (Michal-2, Yael-1). Zvi is married to Sylvie Benisti and they have two children (Eden and Alon). At this time (Nov. 2002) the family has expanded to 38, in 3 generations. Till the death of our parents, Salomea (Mea) and David,in May and September 2002,respectively, we had 4 living generations. Salomea died at the age of 97 and David (Dezso) 4 days short of his 104th birthday.
