The Neff, Schulz, Deml, Groess (Größ) and Preiner Families

Updated May 23, 2001

About Our Family Research

Not to lead anyone utterly astray, there is a serious lack of documentation in what is presented on this site.

My seven times great grandfather was Kasper Neff (b. approx 1650). His son Christian was born on 4 March 1673. The line continues: Johann (1719-1784), Jörg Johann (1758-?), Josef (1794-?), Karl (1828-1913), Ignatz (1858-1916) and my grandfather Peter (1884-1965).

I have little on the family of my grandmother Maria (Schulz) Neff . Her father was Mathias Schulz (1853-1857) and her mother Katharina Wagner (1854-1906).

My mother was Marie Elizabeth (Deml) Neff (1914-1995). Her father was Franz Deml (1887-1961) and her grandfather Johann Deml (1841-1924).

I can trace my grandmother Deml's family back, on her mother's side, to two 4 times great grandfathers, both named Preiner. Line I: Martin, Michael (1797-?), and Anna Kunegunde (1837-1924). Line II: Andreas, Jacob (1793-1846), and Paul (1819-1888). Paul and Anna K. married, and their daughter Anna Preiner (1867-1922) was the mother of my grandmother Elizabeth (1888-1963). Elizabeth's father was Josef Größ (Groess) (1863-1935), and most likely Hungarian.

The Neff family is German and were part of the migration to the Banat region of Hungary in the 1770s. The Schulz's, also German, also migrated to the Banat. I believe the Shultz's may have origintated near Trier, Germany. The Deml's are from the Regensburg area of Bavaria. The Preiners were Austro-Hungarian.

Most of the information came to me from my grandparents, although on the Neff side, the tree has been partly confirmed through records maintained by the Church of Jesus Christ of the Latter-day Saints; I also had a great deal of help from a 3rd cousin once removed who was born in the Banat and now lives i Germany.
