NEFF / SMITH families in NEW YORK STATE, and beyond!

Updated January 15, 2011

About Our Family Research

THE SMITHS: This family is based in south central New York and northern PA. They came there, migrating from New England, after arriving from all over Europe. You will find many lines running through Bradford and Tioga COunties in PA, and many originating in the early colonies of CT and MA. European lines are from Scotland, Ireland, England, Germany, Holland, and Switzerland. My particular branch of Smiths is descended from the Silas Smith line out of Brookline, MA. They settled in and around Rutland Township, Tioga, PA after the Revolution.

THE NEFFS: Are a conglomeration of Swiss and Germans who come to the US and settled NY state between the Hudson and the Finger Lakes. While we are still working on the connection, it seems we are related to the "K-Line", which arrived in the US around 1712, but the remains to be proven!
